First and foremost we need leadership from the European Commission. A deployment strategy is required that addresses the urgent need to build a CO2 transport and storage infrastructure to serve Europe's energy-intensive industries. Commissioners need to stress the importance of CCS, and insist that Member States develop and publish national plans. Time is of the essence. By some estimates construction of a major CCS facility will need to be built in Europe every 9-10 days for the next 25 years; the challenge becomes ever greater with every delay.
