Snam and Eni launch the Ravenna CCS Project
Italian energy companies Snam, a member of CCS Europe, and Eni have officially launched the Ravenna CCS project, marking a significant development in the country's carbon capture and storage (CCS) initiatives. Phase 1 of the project, now underway, involves the capture, transport, and storage of CO₂ emissions from Eni’s Casalborsetti natural gas treatment plant in Ravenna, with an estimated reduction of 25,000 tons of CO₂ annually.
While this marks a promising step forward, the broader success of CCS in Europe hinges on the establishment of a robust regulatory and investment framework. Ensuring that projects like Ravenna can be replicated across the region will be crucial in meeting climate targets. All eyes are now on the EU to provide the necessary support for CCS expansion.
