At first glance, the allocation of more money to the innovation budget sounds like a positive development for clean technologies such as CCS.

However, as there no longer categories in the IF, projects and technologies will have to compete against each other. In addition, CCS projects are ineligible for funds under the "cleantech manufacturing call". Meanwhile the allocation €1.2 billion for the hydrogen auction and €1 billion for EV battery production means that the overall amount of funding available to general decarbonisation and cleantech manufacturing is actually lower than last year to the tune of €2 billion.
