The Dutch NECP recognises CCS as a driver to decarbonise the industrial sectors. However, little commitment is given from the policy development side, leaving it up to the industries to drive advancements forward on CCS.
CO2 capture: A
The plan does not set a target for CCS, but it identifies over 29 Megaton of capture capacity potential in its industry. CCS is recognised as the main driver to decarbonise industrial sectors.
CO2 transport: C
The Netherlands see the importance of transport infrastructure but does not directly spells out its intention to develop a regulatory framework for it based on open and fair access to infrastructure.
CO2 storage: B
No direct target is set in terms of injection capacity, but the plan identifies up to 1600 megatons of CO2 injection capacity in the Netherlands, and highlights the development of the Porthos storage project, which was already granted a storage license.
Funding: C
There is funding available for CCS in the Netherlands, however there is no funds dedicated solely to the technology, forcing CCS projects to compete with other green technologies instead of working together.
