Last week, ENDS Europe covered the news that German environmental groups WWF, NABU, the German Trade Union Confederation and the Federation of German Industries urged the German government to deploy guidelines on carbon capture and storage technologies that align with the upcoming Industrial Carbon Management Strategy. The organisations called for the need to adopt CO2 capture technologies in industries where emissions reduction can not be avoided completely. This statement refers specifically to the hard-to-abate sectors.
Chris Davies said: “It’s very positive to see industry people and environmentalists in Germany coming together to voice support for carbon capture. CCS is not a technology that everyone wants, but it is a technology that major industrial emitters need if they are to meet CO2 reduction targets.”
