Norway is the only country in Europe that has CCS plants in operation (at the Sleipner and Snohvit gas fields) and has acquired nearly 30 years of experience. It is now supporting the building of capture plants at the Norcem cement works and the Oslo waste-to-energy incinerator, as well as the Northern Lights storage facility. Within the EU the Dutch, the Danes and the Swedes are the leaders, with targets set for CO2 to be captured and government funding in place to support CCS deployment. Most Member States have yet to include plans for CCS deployment in their national CO2 reduction strategies.
