CCS Europe asks Commission President to move forward with actions needed to deploy CCS at Union level

On 26 January, CCS Europe sent an open letter to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen asking the Commission to recognise carbon capture and storage as an essential tool to reaching net zero emissions by 2050 and negative emissions thereafter.

The letter calls for sufficient investment certainty to deploy CO2 transport infrastructure across Member States and recommends that preparatory work must be undertaken for a future legislation on the transportation of CO2.

CCS Europe also calls on Member States to address the key role of CCS in the recovery and resilience chapters of their draft emission reduction plans.

Carbon capture and storage technologies represent an opportunity for Europe to gain technological leadership in climate neutral industrial processes, which will lead to economic growth and jobs.
